Until 15.01. 13. | Stadtwerke Icefestival
One of the real christmas market highlights is the ice rink on the rathausplatz, over 700 sqm large, which will be brustling with ice skaters, people playing ice hockey and a variety of shows. Relax and enjoy the little "winter-village just next to the ice rink and try a hot spiced vine.

11.01. – 15.01.12 | Guild of the market criers
At market stalls throughout Kiel’s city centre, top market criers will be praising their wares the old and traditional way. In what promises to be a loud and entertaining competition, market-goers get to decide who is the best market crier.

01.03. – 04.03.12 | Kieler Umschlag
The winter’s city centre folk festival promises four fantastic days under the banner of tradition. Once ancient mayor Asmus Bremer and his wife Katharina have been awoken for the festivities, the mood turns festive. Awaiting you on the Alter Markt will be an entire historical village with artisans and tradesmen, jugglers and innkeepers, inviting you to experience crafts of ages long gone by and partake in delicious dishes.

May to September | Sailing Camp (Camp 24|sieben)
“A taste of sailing” – trips and sailing courses for children, youths and guests of our city. The sailing camp, witch is the only of its kind on Germany, invites you to optimist sailing courses, city tours by boat, after work sailing and many other sailing events directly at the Kielinie seven days a week. www.camp24sieben.de
11.05. – 13.05.12 | Schleswig-Holstein KID’s Festival
The Kiellinie turns into a free paradise for kids over a period of three days. Climbing to wers, sporting events and many other activities on water and land do not only excite children’s hearts.
11.05. – 12.05.12 | »Unser Norden« Beach-Tour
For the third year running, Germany’s beach volleyball elite will come to Kiel’s Holstenplatz. The preliminary tournament of this year’s „Unser Norden“ Beach-Tour promises to keep spectators on the edge of their seats, uniting sports and a breezy beach atmosphere – and all of this right in the heart of the city! Look forward to top-class sports featuring the country’s finest.
17.05. - 20.05.12 | Festival of the beers
During the weekend of Ascension Day, Kiel’s Bootshafen will be transformed into a paradise for beer lovers – over 180 different varieties of one of the world’s most favourite beverages will be presented and visitors will be able to try all of them to their heart’s content. Combining a wonderful view of the fjord, a colourful musical programme and several supporting events, this festival will give an early taste of summer.

16.06. – 24.06.11 | Kieler Woche and 6th International Balloon Sail
9 Days of events: Kieler Woche is the world’s largest competitive sailing event and the largest summer festival in the north of Europe with its over 1000 events. And what’s more, up to 70 hot-air ballooning teams will be attending the sixth international Balloon Sail on the Nordmarksportfeld, casting their magical glow over the sports field as they float off on their evening flight.

July – August | Kultursommer and Museumsnacht
The Kultursommer (summer of culture) will shower you in concerts, theatre shows, readings, expositions, lectures and festivities, culminating on 25 August, when the Museumsnacht (night of the museums) will be celebrated featuring remarkable expositions, music, literature and dance in Kiel’s museums until midnight.
06.07. - 19.08.12 | Open air theatre - The little prince
The open air theatre in the inner courtyard of the town hall exists since twenty year. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday the "Komödianten" entertain the audience with the staging of the wold-famous story of "the little prince" (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry).
07.07. – 26.08.12 | Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival
This year’s international classic music festival will be focussing on China. Some 120 concerts will take place at over 40 venues of very special ambiance. Among them noble country estates, castles, churches, grand manors, large barns and stables.
13.07. – 15.07.12 | Cheese meets wine
Now for the third year running, wine and cheese lovers are once again invited to come and taste a few of the more exquisite types of wine and cheese at the Bootshafen cheese and wine tasting event. During the day visitors will be welcome to enjoy live music, small theatrical interludes and the possibility to go sailing and in the evening the “Zelt der Genüsse” (tent of delights), where typical national delicacies will be served, ensures that cheese fanatics won’t be the only gourmets catered to.
July – September | Bootshafensommer
A diverse cultural and aquatic programme awaits the people from Kiel and their guests at the Bootshafen: from 2 pm until the evening a floating stage will offer poetry slam, jazz dance shows, readings and live music in a relaxed maritime atmosphere. The deck chairs offer a wonderful opportunity to lay back and enjoy the food and drink in front of the evening’s harbour skyline.

12.08. | KN Förde Triathlon
Some 800 athletes and thousands of spectators already look forward to two fantastic days of sports. First the competitiors will swim trough the Kiel fjord, then race bikes through a varied city centre scenery, to complete their triathlon with the run.
20.08. - 26.08.12 | Duckstein Festival - Kai City Kiel
"Art, Culture & the Delicious", is once again the motto of the Duckstein Festival, which will be taking place at the Hörn-Querkai featuring a varied concert programme on a water stage. The free open-air concerts are a very good reason to pay Kiel a visit.
25.08.12 | Museumsnacht
The Museumsnacht (night of the museums) will be celebrated at the 25th August featuring remarkable expositions, music, literature and dance in Kiel’s museums until midnight. There will be a shuttle-service, wich takes you from location to location. At the end you can enjoy the closing-party until dawn.

03.09.12 | NOK Romantica
It will be romantic at the Kiel-Canal: inhabitants, cyclists, tourists and many more are invitedto join the longest chain of lights - with candles, torches and lanterns.
09.09.12 | Kiel.Lauf powered by Fördesparkasse
This sports event with its beautiful course through the heart of the city and along the shores of the Kiel Fjord consists of a half marathon, a 10-km popular distance and a 6-km school pupil’s distance. Be sure to register early, as running the Kiel.Lauf enjoys a rapidly growing popularity. Become a part of the sports event or cheer on the runners and feel their fighting spirit up-close!
21.09. - 23.09.12 | Traditional sailing boat regatta
Back to the roots! For the third time, the Kiel fjord is the venue of this sailing event. Around 30 traditional sailing ships are expected to take part. An exciting supporting entertainment programme with children animation as well as a music and show-act stage will accompany this event. This is the perfect opportunity for everyone who likes to experience maritime flair, water sports and entertainment.

05.10. – 07.10.12 | Farmers’ market
A fresh countryside breeze sweeps the city on the fjord! Since ten years Kiel’s farmers’ and regional market is being held in the centre of Kiel. The city will be dedicated to agriculture and transformed into a market place for regional produce, artisanal and historic crafts. Shops are scheduled to open their doors on the Sunday of this weekend.
18.10. - 21.10.12. | Baltic Horse Show
One of the year´s highlights for horse enthusiasts, Kiel´s Baltic Horse Show is also a treat for the whole family. This year´s horse event again boasts world class riders, international top-ranking horses and the world´s best equestrians vaulters. Its colourful programme and the sheer abundance of different events lined up leave visitors of this horse show at the Sparkassen-Arena with nothing to wish for.

03.-04.11.12 | Scandinavian Days (including sunday opening)
Now for the fourth year running we celebrate the Scandinavian Days in the city centre. Several market stalls offer original products and specialities from Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The shops and boutiques are happy to revisit the scandinavian topic as well - and are open even on Sunday, the 4th of november. Välkommen! Velkommen! Tervetuloa!
November – January | Christmas market and ice festival
The city on the fjord radiates in a bright and cheerful Christmas atmosphere. Traditional christmas punch stalls, arts and crafts and culinary delicacies form an invitation to a long christmas stroll.
