Beaches
Sandy beaches, long coast lines, promenades and a marvellous landscape around the firth of Kiel offer everything one is expecting when it comes to beach holiday. Visit the submarine U995 and the naval memorial in Laboe and when you are lucky you might see the Gorch Fock, the training sailing boat of the German navy forces at the Tirpitz pier.
Falckenstein
The Falckensteiner beach is a wide sandy beach with coastal dunes. In the south a dike protects the hinterland against flood. During summer time the beach is frequented mostly by families. The water is shallow and therefore ideal for the kids.
Here, the Förde is very narrow, so the ships are passing by impressively near. A nearby campsite, the holiday village Falckenstein, the youth camp site and a separated beach for the dogs makes this beach popular. The beach is guarded. The west wind sailing school offers water sport facilities. You can reach the Falckensteiner beach with the bus lines 91, 501 and 502 from the central station or by the Förde ferry.
Schilksee
South of the Schilksee harbour is a beautiful wide sandy beach that is accessible through stairs. Wave breakers provide smooth water for swimming and make it a safe pleasure for children. Furthermore the DLRG is guarding the beach.
You can rent roofed wicker beach chairs and there are beach kiosks for snacks and drinks as well as restaurants at the Olympic center. Passing ships and boats make this beach even more interesting. Schilksee is perfect for all kinds of water sport.
The Schilksee beach is accessible by the bus lines 502, 901 and 902 from the central station.
Strande
Previously a small fishing village, Strande became a center of attraction for those who enjoy sunbathing and swimming. The main attraction is the wide sandy beach. Shallow water offers save big and small swimming fun. The marvellous more than 5 km long promenade invites for a walk.
Starting point is the picturesque old fishing harbour with his wooden pier, the fishing boats and numerous nice sailing yachts. Along the beach the way leads to the surfers beach in the Strande bay.
The beach is guarded. You can reach the beach with the bus lines 502, 901 and 902 from the central station.
Laboe
Laboe is a traditional seaside resort, however it is also well known through its naval memorial and the submarine, which was modified into a museum. The Baltic seaside resort Laboe is always good for a stroll, where small yachts and fishing cutters have their berths.
Laboe is one of the oldest seaside resorts in this region. The sandy beach, miles long and ideal for children with shallow water and sandbanks guarantees an enjoyable beach time
The beach is guarded. Water sport possibilities are given at the surfing-school Laboe. You can reach the Laboeer beach with the bus lines 100 and 102, as well as with the Förde ferry.
Heidkate
The 3,7 km long natural beach is center of attraction for swimmers and surfers alike. The campsite Heidkoppel with parking space for 700 vehicles and 550 beach houses offers a relaxing experience at the Baltic Sea. You can reach the beach by car or bicycle.
Schönberger beach
The seaside resort Schönberger Strand with its endless sandy beaches makes a holiday dream come true. Kieler Insiders name this beach California or little Brazil. The beach is guarded. The beach offers many possibilities for water sport. You can reach the beach with the bus lines 200 and 201 from the central station.
